Second Year in Row With Earliest Ice Out- Global Warming
You know when spring on the Gunflint is near when the ice goes out- Little Ollie Lake when out on April 16 followed by Poplar Lake on April 18th. This marks the second year in a row when Poplar Lake went out on April 18. This is the earliest date I can recall in thirty two years the ice went out this early and those that have been keeping track for even longer can not recall it ever going out earlier then April 18. Wake up George "W" global warming is happening and guess what it is not all due to natural causes.
In response to this post the following anonymous entry was received. "George W is not the only one that needs to "wake Up". The warnings for global warming have been sounded for years. We are ALL responsible, not just George W!"
I can not agree more; we are all responsible and we all have to do our part. However if real change is going to happen and if global warming is going to be really reduced then those with the power to actually make a difference must get on board. George Bush, as president of the worlds biggest polluting nation, either due to his ineptness or ignorance has yet to seriously take on this issue.

Amen to that.
It is concerning to think of the ways the climate change could affect our Nothwoods and that our Moose etc. would no longer be able to survive here.
Our government needs to forget about opening more areas in Alaska to drilling and concentrate on optimizing other forms of energy that have less impact on the environment.
I found out from H.J. Outfitter's newsletter about being able to get electricity produced by windpower through Arrowhead Electric and am looking into that. Maybe there is a way to spread the news on this option.
I have been pleased to see more about global warming in the media lately. It is a real and a scary problem. Our government should be focusing on ways to slow it down now and each of us should look at ourselves to see what we could do better

You really want an answer to global warming (and I do), then we need to be willing to pay $4.00 for a gallon of gas, so that we support financially the alternate fuel sources that could really impact it. $4 gas would drive demand for hybrid cars, and provide the engine to move to hydrogen. The other benefit is to deprive the terrorist states like Iran of the source of their wealth.
We need to wake up in this country, we are ruining our planet while at the same time financially supporting those very lunatics that flew the planes into the World Trade Center.
